Abstract

INDONESIA Zeolit banyak disintesis karena sifatnya yang multifungsi. Zeolit Na-Y merupakan contoh katalis asam padat yang pada penelitian ini disintesis menggunakan silika yang bersumber dari rumput gajah. Zeolit Na-Y digunakan sebagai katalis dalam reaksi esterifikasi asam oleat. Penelitian ini digunakan metode presipitasi menggunakan larutan NaOH untuk mengisolasi silika dari rumput gajah (Pennisetum Purpureum) dan metode hidrotermal untuk sintesis zeolit. Spektrofotometer XRD mengkonfirmasi adanya struktur faujasit zeolit. Selain dengan XRD, zeolit dikarakterisasi dengan TEM dan BET/BJH yang menunjukan sintesis zeolit Na-Y berhasil disintesis. Hasil karakterisasi menggunakan metode BET/BJH didapat hasil 28,086 m2/g dengan diameter pori sebesar 35,794 nm yang diklasifikasikan dalam ukuran mesopori. Proses esterifikasi dilakukan pada suhu 65°C dengan waktu reaksi 6 jam. Pada sampel asam oleat penurunan kadar asam lemak bebas mencapai 64%. ENGLISH Many zeolites are synthesized because of their multifunctionality. Zeolite Na-Y is an example of a solid acid catalyst which in this study was synthesized using silica sourced from elephant grass. Zeolite Na-Y is used as a catalyst in the esterification of oleic acid. This research used precipitation method using NaOH solution to isolate silica from elephant grass (Pennisetum Purpureum) and hydrothermal method for zeolite synthesis. The XRD spectrophotometer confirmed the presence of zeolite faujasite structures. In addition to XRD, zeolites are characterized by TEM and BET / BJH which show synthesized zeolite Na-Y. The results of the characterization using the BET / BJH method obtained results of 28,086 m2 / g with a pore diameter of 35,794 nm which was classified in mesopore size. The esterification process was carried out at 65°C with a reaction time of 6 hours. In oleic acid samples the decrease in free fatty acid levels reached 64%.
