Abstract

Connotative meaning is the additional meaning or a meaning related to a value. A word can change its meaning if added a value. This thesis, focused to see how the connotative meaning in the lyrics of Harris J. This study also aims to know two main the problems, they are (1) kind of connotative meaning and (2) the meaning of the words included in the connotative meaning. The research uses the theory of J.N Hook (1975) which categorized the connotative meaning into positive Connotation, Neutral Connotation ad Negative Connotation. This study uses the descriptive Qualitative method, and to analyzed the data, the researcher uses 4 steps; 1) Identifying data 2) Categorizing data 3) Analyzing and interpreting data 4) Making conclusion based on the result of the research. And the results of this research found 61 words includes in the Connotative meaning. And found 49 includes positive Connotation, 9 includes negative connotation, and 3 includes neutral Connotation.
