Abstract
In this research, the writer analyzed English and Indonesian syntax, especially in verb group phrase, International New York Times and Kompas.com as the object of the study. It is very interesting because to attract the audience’s attention verb group phrase in different language. The research has two problem formulation, first, what verb group phrase in English and Indonesian newspaper. Second, how to understand the differences of verb group phrase between English and Indonesian newspaper. The writer use verb group phrase theory of Linda and Thomas, and Hasan Busri to analyze the data. The research method of this research is descriptive contrastive method. The writer used three steps in collecting data, those are finding, reading and identifying a latest news. Then, technique of analyzing data used four steps, there are identifying, categorizing, contrasting and drawing the data. The results of this research. First, the writer found six verb group phrase in English newspaper, there are mono transitive, di-transitive, complex transitive, intensive, intransitive and prepositional verb and 4 verb group phrase in Indonesian newspaper, there are mono transitive, di-transitive, complex transitive and intransitive. Second, there are three differences of verb group phrase between English and Indonesian newspaper.
