Abstract

This research analyzes the meaning of depression symbol into a message in the eleven lyrics of an English song by Adele in 25 album. This research use Charles Sanders Piercé theory of symbol in literary works. The researcher found some data of depression symbol from song lyrics contained depression such as sadness, hurt, feeling abandoned, disappointed, and depressed. Researcher used a descriptive method to find the result of the research. The data in this research are obtained from lyrics in 25 album. It shows a depression as a figurative language that can be analysed from the song lyrics sourced on the analysis of symbol depression. The researcher find the meaning of depression symbol contained in the lyrics of Adele’s song in the album 25. The description of the depression present as a message has been analysed using the symbolic theory in song lyrics and depression in the song lyrics such as sadness, hurt feeling, feeling abandoned, feelings of disappointment, and depressed
