Abstract

In communication the speaker does not only produce an utterance which has a literal meaning, but there is a purpose or function of his utterance, liketo make someone to do something. To make someone to do something it is called as a directive speech acts. In this research the researcher analyzes types of directive speech acts performed in Kungfu Panda (2008) and how are the effects of the directive speechacts. This study uses the theory of Yule (1996) in classifying types of directive speechacts. The theory of Kauffmann (2012) and Martinez (2013) are used to analyze typesof directive speech acts. Furthermore, for analyzing data the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. Since in analyzing the data the researcher does not use statistical method and the form of the data are textual data. The result of this study shows that there are four types of directive speech acts performed by the characters they are: commanding, ordering, requesting, suggesting. The total number of data found are 49 utterances directive speech acts: 26 data of commanding; 13 data of ordering; 6 data of requesting; and 4 data of suggesting. The effects of the directive speech acts there are the addressee accepts and rejects the addresser utterance. There are 37 utterances accepted and 12 utterances rejected by the addressee. From the result of this research, it can be concluded that all the types of directive speech acts performed by the characters and commanding form mostly used by the speaker. The effects of the directive speech acts found that there are thespeaker utterances accepted and rejectedby the addressee. The addressee accepts and rejects the speaker utterances by giving or showing an action or just saying something as a response. For the next researchers, you can choose another types of illocutionary acts as the topic of study such as declaratives, commisives, representatives or expressives.
