Abstract
This article discusses on various policies enacted by the Government of Indonesia concerning religious life of the subjects related to the freedom of choice and performing religious doctrines. The relation between religion and state as reflected in the various political policies made by the Government shows how ambivalent it was until the end of 1970s and the early 1980s.
