Abstract

This experiment is started from opinion that using dictation in writing ability. Writing is one of four English skills. There are many students face difficulties to writing. They think writing is the most of difficult skill of four English skills. The purpose of this research to measure the influence of using dictation on student’s ability in writing under the following aims, the first is to know the student’s ability in writing using dictation. The second is to know the student’s ability in writing without using dictation. The third is to know the significant influence the students’ ability in writing using dictation and without using dictation. The research was taken by experimental method with some steps such as determining location, population, sample and steps of statistic procedures. The sample of this research is the student’s year VIII of MTs YPI Pulosari Limbangan-Garut. This research is divided into two groups, there are experimental group and control group. This experiment is focused on 35 students as sample of experimental group that is given treatment�the student’s writing using dictation� and 35 students as sample for control group that is not given treatment “the student’s writing without using dictation�. The result of the research, it was known the students of experimental group have gotten mean score of post-test is 70.8 and the mean score of pre-test is 53.46. It means that the student’s ability in writing of experimental group is better than the student’s ability in writing of control group. Because mean score of experimental group is higher than mean score of control group. The score of tcount = 5.27 while the score of ttable = 2.46. It means the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and working hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Since tcount is higher than ttable (tcount 5.27 > ttable 2.46). In conclusion, there is significant difference between student’s ability in writing using dictation and student’s ability in writing without using dictation. The last, using dictation in writing is good to improve the ability of writing.
