Abstract

This paper entitled “The Application of English R&B Songs to Improve Listening Comprehension of Students is about the influence of using English R&B songs for student listening comprehension in order to fine the new situation in learning process. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out students’ listening comprehension by using English R&B songs, (2) To reveal students’ listening comprehension without using English R&B songs. The method used in research is experimental method. The experiment is divided into two classes: they are experimental class (teaching by using English R&B songs) and control class (teaching without using English R&B songs). To get the data, the researcher used procedures of pre-test and post-test. The data analysis is use to compute a significant different between learning by using English R&B songs and learning without using English R&B songs to improve the students’ listening comprehension. The counting is used statistic method with “t test. The statistical computation performed on pre-test result. Experiment class has an average score of 45.40 and control class has an average score of 43.83. The t-test conducted to examine differences between two classes. It has shown that t count = 1.51is lower than t table ¬= 2.42 which can be concluded that there is no significant difference in students listening comprehension based on pre-test score on both class. It can be accepted because English R&B songs are being used after the pre-test. Furthermore the result of post-test data analysis show us that in experimental class has an average score of 78.50 and in control class has an average score of 58.50. The t-test conducted to examine differences between two classes. It has shown that t count = 17.86, is higher than t table ¬= 2.42 which can be concluded that there is significant difference in students listening comprehension based on post-test score between experimental and control class. Thus, the students listening skill in English taught by using English R&B songs and the other without using English R&B songs are not the same. It can be conclude that null hypothesis is accepted. It meant there is a significant difference. The teacher is suggested provide the most effective learning situation by associating the approaches, methods and techniques to get better student achievement result.
