Abstract
This study examines the social deixis and focuses on the search for data on the type and function of social deixis in The King's Speech. In analyzing data, the writer uses the theory of social deixis from Levinson (1983), Yule (1983), Adisutrisno (2008) and other related theories. This study used a qualitative approach related to social deixis in the script of The King's Speech film written by David Sedler. The results showed that the form of social deixis used in the script of the film is in the form of relational and absolute, in relational form the writer finds three types that have data in the script of the film that is 4 data of author and reader (honorifics of reader), 11 data of author and author ( honorific of the author), 1 data of author to non-reader participant (bystander honorific) while for the absolute form the author finds 2 types namely 3 data of authorized author and 11 data of authorized recipient. The second finding is the function of social deixis in The King’s Speech movie script. The function of each type serves as a tribute when communicating which includes: to maintain good manners in language as a medium of differentiation of social level of a person, tools to clarify the closeness of social relations or kinship, tools to clarify a person's social position or profession.
