Abstract

Language has an important function in society’s life. People often use informal language like slang language in their informal daily activities. Slang is the language used in casual activities and usually used by teenagers when they are talking with their closer friends. In this research, the writer chose Sausage Party movie as source of data. The research questions in this research are 1. Context of slang and 2. Lexical meaning of slangs. The writer also uses some theories that related to slang language and the definition of slang. To find the words or phrases of slang, the writer has already selected forty-four of slang words and phrases from the movie and analyzed them one by one. The research method in this research use qualitative method, where she describes one by one word or phrase of slang language from the movie. There are several techniques of data. The first is watching the movie, Writer analyzes context of slang language and the meaning based on subtitle and elaborating the context and meaning of slang language. In the context the researcher founds the use of slang in emotional situation but it is slang words usually are used in the informal situation, dialogue with closer friend, and the critical situation but from this research slang words are mostly used when talking with closer friends. Place in each slang often use in a supermarket because the care of this film is in the supermarket. For meaning there is some slang word which are not appropriated lexically. For example, the word Fucked up means usually vulgar its meaning from Merriam Webster dictionary, but in this context its word means confused.
